Dr. Ruth J. Chen received both her Optometry Doctorate and bachelor’s degree in molecular cell biology at UC Berkeley. At the UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Dr. Chen earned the Dean’s Award for her Doctor of Optometry thesis on vision screening in developing countries and was also the recipient of the Contact Lens Clinic Award. She loves being involved with her alma mater and has served on the board for the UC Berkeley Optometry Alumni Association. Dr. Chen is glaucoma certified and is a member of the California Optometric Association, Alameda Contra Costa Counties Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association. Her clinical experience includes dry eye treatment, myopia control, primary care, ocular disease management, and specialty contact lenses, including scleral lenses. Having 2 boys of her own, Dr. Chen is especially passionate about children’s vision and eye health and the importance of early childhood eye exams to help give children the best opportunity for learning.

Dr. Andy T. Nguyen was born and raised in Calgary Canada. He studied at The University of Calgary and went on to pursue his Bachelor of Vision Science and Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. Through his schooling he developed a passion for specialty contact lenses, dry eyes and corneal pathology. This ultimately led him to pursue a residency in Cornea & Contact Lenses at the Illinois College of Optometry. He worked closely with Ophthalmology at Chicago Cornea Consultants and The University of Chicago where he developed his expertise in fitting specialty contact lenses, managing advance dry eye, and learning best myopia control practices for children.

Dr. Andy strives to provide excellent care for all of his patients from routine exams to complex eye conditions. He thrives on challenging cases and is always up for the challenge. In his free time he enjoys trying new foods, binging TV shows and is an avid hockey fan. He is currently accepting new patients and can also offer exams in Vietnamese.

Dr. Woodring received his optometry doctorate at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. He has been in private practice for over 35 years. A member of the American Optometric Association and the UCB Optometry Alumni Association, Dr. Woodring also dedicated years teaching at the Berkeley School of Optometry.
